Generation No. 3
5. JAMES3 TROUSDALE (WILLIAM2, JOHN1) was born 1753, and died 1820 in Maury Co., TN. He married SARAH ELIZABETH FAUCETT November 30, 1787 in Orange Co., NC. She was born in Orange Co., NC, and died Aft. 1830 in Nr. Columbia, TN.
Notes for JAMES TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Direct evidence as to parentage of James is lacking. Circumstantially, he lived adjacent to or with William, the father, on the west side of the Haw; James Stockard, presumed brother-in-law, was bondsman to James's marriage and later sold him land; James Trousdale migrated to Tennessee settling in the same area with William Jr. and the Stockards; the only other James Trousdale of this period is separately placed. Initially the couple lived in Orange Co., NC where the eldest children were born. In 1797 James Stockard sold James Trousdale 113 acres on the west side of the Haw (Orange Co. Deeds). In the 1800 census James, living in Orange District, Orange Co., NC, had a family comprising males: one 26/45, two under 10; females: one 216/45, one 10/16, two under 10. On 20 October 1807 James sold his 113 acres to Henry Albright for £500 (Orange Co. Deeds) and moved the following year with his family to Maury Co., Tennessee settling on a homestead eight miles south of Columbia (Ferrell). In 1809 he was on jury duty in the December Court and again in 1819 (Maury Co. Ct Min). James's will, signed 6 June 1816, named all of the children listed; the six daughters first followed by the three sons. (Maury Co. Prob). In the 1820 census Sarah "Trousal" is head of the family then consisting of males: three 16/26; females: one over 45, four under 16. She is not found in the 1830 census. (note: Sarah Elizabeth Faucett was probably the daughter of William F. Faucett who died in Orange Co., NC in 1785 (Wills). In 1790 William, her brother, lived in Chatham District, Orange Co. having two white votes and 310 acres. KT) Children of JAMES TROUSDALE and SARAH FAUCETT are: 20. i. DAVID FAWCETT4 TROUSDALE, b. 6. JOHN3 TROUSDALE (WILLIAM2, JOHN1) was born 1756, and died December 11, 1837 in Smith Co., TN. He married ELIZABETH JANE STOCKARD (?).
Notes for JOHN TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Based on the period of John's birth it occurred prior to the move from Pennsylvania. His parentage is determined by the elimination of the other contemporaneous and slightly younger Johns, sons, respectively, of John Jr. and Capt. James. The former, John 3d, after his father's death in 1797, moved to Montgomery Co., TN and is definitely recorded in that area for the succeeding several decades. The only other John Trousdale, son of Capt. James, born in 1762, left Orange Co. ahead of his father, married in Kentucky and later returned to Sumner Co., TN, joining his father, John Trousdale, son of William, was among the last to migrate to Tennessee. In Orange Co. there is no specific record that he was a property owner. His family may be included with that of his father William in the 1800 census (both Federal and State).
