Civil War: Organized troops in 1861 (War Reb 1st S LII, i-36), Capt. and ass't adjutant general of Gen. M. J. Wright's Brigade (Journal Confed Cong III 396), cited October 03, 1863 for his invaluable services (War Reb 1st S XXX 120). As a journalist he was editor of the Chattanooga "Rebel", Memphis "Commercial" and later of the "Appeal" (Encyc. Biog.). After the war he became State Supt of Education. Author: "Old Folks Hist.
