    John Trousdale spent his boyhood in Maury Co where he probably married and, with his parents, moved to Lauderdale Co., AL about 1828/9.   In 1830 he was living adjacent to his father, married and with a minor daughter (Census).  He was commissioned justice of the peace in Lauderdale Co. on April 10, 1832.  With his brother William he administered their father's estate in 1833.  Early in 1836 John and his family moved to Marshall Co., MS settling near Holly Springs.  Here he was again a justice of the peace, conducted a general store and, from 1836 to 1845, had a private school.  He was a farmer and a landowner (Census).  John was tax collector from 1852 to 1854 and clerk of the Probate Court in 1855.  In 1858 he visited his son, John A. in Fayette Co., TX, buying land there at the time.  On October 31, 1859 he left Holly Springs for Texas (Kirk), settling near LaGrange, an extensive property owner and well-to-do farmer (Census).

26.  JOHNSTON⁴ TROUSDALE (WILLIAM³, WILLIAM², JOHN¹) was born 1814 in TN, and died November 19, 1880 in Lauderdale Co., AL.  He married (1) SUSAN GOFF.    He married (2) JANE CRITTENDEN February 13, 1835.  She was born August 17, 1820, and died Aft. 1860.  He married (3) ELLEN STANLEY July 16, 1861.  She was born Abt. 1839 in Colbert Co., AL, and died March 13, 1872.  He married (4) MARY FRANK POTTER Aft. 1872.  She was born Abt. 1856 in AL.

    His name is frequently spelled "Johnson".  In 1840 he was a farmer and slave owner living on the Tennessee River in Lauderdale Co., AL remaining there through 1850.   In 1860 he was in nearby Lawrence Co. owning no land but very wealthy and living with his son, Felix and wife.  He returned to Lauderdale Co. before 1870 where he was a small landowner and very poor, presumably a result of the recent war (Census).  In 1880 Johnston was living in Center Star in the family of Benjamin.  His second wife, spelling uncertain, was a widow from Columbia, TN.  His last wife, Mary, with her child, in 1880 was separated from Johnston and working on a farm outside of Center Star.  Later, both mother and child moved to Arkansas (Fam Rec).
