WILLIAM4 TROUSDALE (JOHN3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1) was born Abt. 1783 in Orange Co., NC, and died December 08, 1819 in Smith Co., TN.  He married MARY HARVEY.  She was born Abt. 1782 in NC, and died Aft. 1860.

William probably accompanied his parents and settled with them in Smith Co., Tenn.  he was on jury duty in 1809.  About this time both he and his father received land from the State.  In 1810 his stock mark was a swallow fork in each ear with an under bit on the right.  William was commissioned justice of the peace in 1812, assessor in Capt. Shaw's company (district) in 1813 and in Capt. Green's in 1813 and 1814.  During these years he was busy in connection with settling various estates.  He was again on jury duty in 1815.  On May 12, 1`817, William was licensed to practice law (Smith Co. Ct. Min).  He died before either of his parents.  His will, signed February 04, 1819, is a "death bed" instrument.  The plantation went to "wife Mary" in trust for his children:  John, James, Betty (Elizabeth) Smith, Jinny (Jane) and (Mary) Ann, all minors.  His father, John Trousdale Sr., and his father-in-law, John Harvey, were administrators; his brother, John Jr., being a witness (Smith Co. Wills, IV, 238.  From the originals by Mrs. Will High in 1952.  The WPA reproduction omits the name of James, above.)  This will was recorded April 05, 1820.  Mary's surname is deduced from the will and by the repetition of "Harvey" in the descendants.  Mary (Polly) continued to farm the plantation at Caney Fork River until after 1850 when she turned over the operation to her son-in-law, John B. Nichols, whose family had been living with Polly for some years (Census).

Children of WILLIAM TROUSDALE and MARY HARVEY are:
