Apparently he was justice of the peace for 1n 1799 he approved a deed of land sold to his brother John (Sumner Co Ct Min). James and his family moved to Gallatin Co., Illinois settling near Shawneetown. He commanded the militia company of that town in 1813 and was granted authority to operate a tavern in 1815 (Gallatin Co Rec). James lived in Wabsh Bottom on the road from Equality to Carmi at Grenshaw's Mill (1833) ("Early Settlers,,," Bender 96 & 111). Children of JAMES TROUSDALE and MALINDA MAY are: i. Notes for ROBERT TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Robert accompanied his parents to Sumner Co., TN and was active in local affairs as early as 1803 when his father deeded "to his son Robert" 120 acres (Sumner Co Ct Min 386). This tract was subsequently recovered by Capt. James (op cit 484). Robert was, from time to time, on jury duty, a patroller and appeared to be doing considerable law work. Not being in the 1820 Census of this area he probably had already left for Louisiana. In 1840 Robert was living in St. Mary's Parish, LA his family then comprising, males: one 40/50, one 5/10, one under 5, and five slaves (Census). The 1850 Census of this parish is incomplete.
