Notes for JOHN TROUSDALE III: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Following his brother Alexander and possibly William, John 3d settled in Montgomery Co., Tenn on his father's Blooming Grove Creek grant. In 1804 a road was to be built from "John Trousdale's to Mason Bennett's ferry" over the Cumberland (Stewart Co. Min). He definitely lived in Montgomery Co. being on jury duty there in 1805 and a bondsman to the extent of $4000 (Montgomery Co. Ct. Min.). He lived near Alexander Trousdale's home, being made overseer to build a road to Clarksville "past the home of Alexaner Trousdale". John was commissioned justice of the peace 20 Apr 1813 at which time he "lived on Blooming Grove Creek". Tax assessor for several years, he was recommissioned justice in 1815 and was noted as "captain" of the district (op cit). John and James Trousdale were defendants in the Stewart Co. Ct. in 1818 (Ct. Rec). In the 1820 Census his family comprised males: one over 45, three 16/26, one 16/18; females: two over 45, one 26/45, one 16/26, two 10/16. Again, this appears to be more than one family. James, below, lived nearby. No Trousdale are found in subsequent Census. Child of JOHN TROUSDALE and is: i. JAMES4 TROUSDALE, b. Bef. 1794; m. <UNNAMED>, Bet. 1784 - 1804.
Notes for JAMES TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. James and his wife had one child. He sold a negro woman in 1820. (Montgomery Co. Rec).
13. NANCY3 TROUSDALE (JOHN2, JOHN1) was born Aft. 1775. She married JOHN RAY.
Notes for NANCY TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Parentage in this instance is by elimination; Nancy Freeland being the daughter of William and Nancy, daughter of Capt. James being a cripple and never marrying. During the Revolution, John ray was a Tory, called "colonel". In the 1790 Census (tax list) he was living in Hillsboro District, Orange Co., NC: one vote, 5 black polls, 379 acres. The family and the descendants remained in North Carolina. Child of NANCY TROUSDALE and JOHN RAY is: 40. i. MARTHA DUNN4 RAY.
14. ALEXANDER3 TROUSDALE (JAMES2, JOHN1) was born June 26, 1765 in Lancaster Co., PA or Orange Co., NC, and died 1830 in Madison Co., TN or Davidson Co., TN. He married NANCY EMILY ALLEN Abt. 1790 in Orange Co., NC, daughter of JOHN ALLEN and JANETTE COLEMAN. She was born Abt. 1768 in Orange Co., NC, and died 1847 in Columbia Co., AR.
Notes for ALEXANDER TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. There are conflicts in the data pertaining to this family. In 1933 Mrs. Gladney did not have the Bible Records of William Bell Trousdale, a grandson. Gladney states that Alexander served in the militia in 1783 but no such record exists. He was not a property owner in Orange Co., NC and therefore was not included in Census 1790. He left North Carolina shortly after 1794 settling at a "Crab Orchard" in Tennessee. Today that would be in Cumberland Co. which was not formed until 1855. Probably he went to Henry Co., where William Wallace settled and later to Madison Co., where Allen established a home. In neither county did he serve in office or establish a record. Notes for NANCY EMILY ALLEN: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Nancy Allen's father was from Bedford Co., Va and, according to Gladney had militia service as pvt Capt John Johnston's Co 8 Sep to Dec 1780.
