Notes for NANCY TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Nancy identifies herself as daughter of William, the brother of Capt. James, in her affidavit 24 Apr 1852 incorporated in the claim for retroactive pension for Elizabeth Dobbins Trousdale (Pension Claim W 4525). She stated inter alia that she was 83 or 84 years of age, that her father, William, lived within three miles from Capt. James, her uncle; that she had several sisters but mentioned none by name. She signed with her mark. In the 1850 Census she was born in 1772, a landowner and, apparently, a widow. The Freelands were first settlers along the Haw River (Hist Alamance Co., NC). In the 1790 Census (tax list) John Freeland had one vote and no land. He was then in St. Thomas District, Orange Co., NC. Children of NANCY TROUSDALE and JOHN FREELAND are: i. CHARLES J.4 FREELAND, b. 1790, NC; m. MARY.

Notes for ALEXANDER TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. Except for direct evidence as to Alexander's father, this family group and the descendants are exceptionally well documented. This Alexander is not to be confused with Alexander, son of Capt. James, born 26 Jun 1765. As a baby Alexander accompanied his parents from Pennsylvania to North Carolina (Fam Trad). He is stated to have served in the North Carolina militia during 1783 but this service can not be authenticated. He was not a landowner in Orange Co., NC nor is he listed in the 1790 Census. Shortly after marriage and certainly before 1796 he moved onto his father's 640 acre tract on Blooming Grove Creek in Montgomery Co., Tenn. (His brother, William and John jr, followed him.) His home was near the Stewart Co. line on the road to Clarksville. On 29 Sep 1797 Alexander Trousdale was commissioned lieutenant in the Montgomery Co. militia (Rec Off Tenn Militia 1790/1811). In 1806 he was on jury duty. In 1807 he bought 150 acres of Henry Miner, located apparently in Stewart Co. for he was taxed there the same year. He was again on jury duty in Montgomery Co. in 1811. In April 1813 he sold the land that he bought from Miner "at the head of Fletcher Creek". This probably marks his departure from Tennessee for in 1815 mention is made of "the place where Alexander Trousdale formerly lived" (Montgomery & Stewart Co Ct Min). Arriving in White Co., Ill Alexander was the first to take land in Indian Creek (twn) on 6 Jun 1815. He was commissioned Justice on 214 May 1817. His family are in the State enumeration of 1818 and the 1820 Census. Alexander was a founder-member of the
