From the Census, Caty was born between 1790 and 1790, nearer the former because she married in 1801. In 1783 William McCauley executed a deed of gift to his daughter Caty McCauley (Off Reg Deeds Hillsboro, NC II 80), which year probably was that of his death. In the 1790 Census a William McCauley, presumed "jr" and brother to Caty, lived in St. Thomas District, Orange Co., NC: no vote (a minor), 4 slaves, 1532 acres. Children of WILLIAM TROUSDALE and CATY MCCAULEY are: 24. i. WILLIAM M.4 TROUSDALE, b. 1807, Orange Co., NC; d. Aft. 1880. 25. ii. JOHN TROUSDALE, b. August 08, 1808, Orange Co., NC or Maury Co., TN; d. April 21, 1867, Fayette Co., TX. 26. iii. JOHNSTON TROUSDALE, b. 1814, TN; d. November 19, 1880, Lauderdale Co., AL. 27. iv. CATHERINE TROUSDALE, d. Abt. 1859. 28. v. NANCY TROUSDALE, b. August 06, 1815, Prob. Maury Co., TN; d. May 06, 1895.
8. ELLEN3 TROUSDALE (WILLIAM2, JOHN1) was born Abt. 1750, and died 1818 in Maury Co., TN. She married JAMES STOCKARD Abt. 1770.
Notes for ELLEN TROUSDALE: SOURCE: "The Trousdale Genealogy" by Karl Truesdell, 1952; Enlarged by Theodore McKee Trousdale, Jr., 1960. According to the earliest reference (Long), Ellen was the sister of Capt. James. If the John Trousdale Will of 12779 be that of John, the elder, Ellen was not mentioned therein. Others claim Ellen to be the daughter of Capt. James - this is now generally denied by all. There is no direct evidence as to Ellen's father or her year of birth. However, a realistic study of the years of birth of her children and, most particularly, the recorded acts of her husband, James Stockard, together with the migration of the family to Maury Co., Tenn, furnish circumstantial but definite clues. James Stockard was a first settler on the Haw River (Hist. Alamance Co., NC Stockard). "Long" states that he was a Continenatal soldier in the Revolution. This is probably true, but the rolls being lost, can not be proven. He became an early landowner in Orange Co. but the grant or deed is not recorded. In the 1790 Federal Census James is living in Hillsboro District, Orange Co. but in the corresponding tax list (Col Rec NC XXVI 1292) he is place in Caswell District, one white vote, 175 acres. This was the same locality in which William Trousdale sr. and his sons lived and owned property. In 1797 he bought 150 acres on the west side of the Haw from John Trousdale for the nominal sum of £20; the same year he sold 113 acres to James Trousdale; and on 15 Dec 1803 sold William Trousdale jr 200 acres on New Hope Creek (Orange Co. Deeds). According to tradition James Stockard and his family, except John, moved to Maury Co., Tenn between 1795 and 1800. However, based on the last deed, the move probably took place in 1804, and it is believed that others of the children, than John, remained in North Carolina. In Tennessee, James bought of David Craig, jr 240 acres on Big Tom Bigby Creek in Maury Co on 2 Feb 1813 (Deeds). According to an unverifiable authority Ellen died in Maury Co. in 1810. Children of ELLEN TROUSDALE and JAMES STOCKARD are: i. ELIZABETH4 STOCKARD, m. JOHN TROUSDALE. ii. WILLIAM STOCKARD, b. 1772, Orange Co., NC; d. 1837, TN; m. LEAH MANN, January 28, 1797, Orange Co., NC; b. 1779; d. 1841, TN.

iii. JOSEPH STOCKARD, b. 1776, Orange Co., NC; d. 1837; m. ELIZABETH CRAIG, 1816; b. NC. 29. iv. JOHN STOCKARD, b. 1781, Orange Co., NC; d. 1861, NC. v. NANCY STOCKARD, b. 1783, Orange Co., NC; d. 1828; m. DAVID CRAIG, JR., 1808.
